Imagination Stage's production of "Playing from the Heart" was based on the life story of Scottish percussionist Evelyn Glennie. Director Janet Stanford wanted to reference the colors and textures of Highland Scotland without losing the universal quality of the piece. With an ensemble cast on stage the majority of the play, multiple character changes and the passage of time needed to be strongly delineated with quick minimal pieces.
